In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Intel G43 Express Chipset are marginally better than the Nvidia Quadro NVS 290.

The G43 Express Chipset was released less than a year after the Quadro NVS 290, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The Quadro NVS 290 has 256 MB video memory, but the G43 Express Chipset does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The Quadro NVS 290 has 16 Shader Processing Units but the G43 Express Chipset does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The Quadro NVS 290 requires 21 Watts to run and the G43 Express Chipset requires 24 Watts. The G43 Express Chipset requires 3 Watts more than the Quadro NVS 290 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the G43 Express Chipset to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Quadro NVS 290.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewQuadro NVS 290 is a professional Graphics Card certified for professional applications.
Its drivers are not optimized for gaming purposes but rather for the use of professional applications. Its core, the G86, is used on the GeForce 8400 GS and therefore its performance is comparable but slightly worse, due to not benefiting from gaming optimizations that 8400 GS does.
Intel G43 Express Chipset comes embedded on the Core 2 Quad/Core 2 Duo CPUS and features an Integrated GPU called Intel GMA X4500.
Due to its characteristics (e.g. Shared Memory) the performance is very limited but might be enough to play today's games at low settings excluding, however, very demanding games like Metro 2033 or The Witcher II, that are unplayable, even at the lowest settings.
