In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 6850 Sapphire 1GB Edition are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 8670 (OEM).
The HD 8670 has a 225 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 6850, but the HD 6850 has 24 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 8670. As a result, the HD 6850 exhibits a 13.2 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the HD 8670. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The HD 8670 has a 225 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 6850, but the HD 6850 has 24 more Render Output Units than the HD 8670. As a result, the HD 6850 exhibits a 16.8 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD 8670. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The HD 8670 was released over a year more recently than the HD 6850, and so the HD 8670 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 6850.
The HD 8670 has 1024 MB more video memory than the HD 6850, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.
The HD 6850 has 54.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 8670, which means that the memory performance of the HD 6850 is much better than the HD 8670.
The Radeon HD 6850 Sapphire 1GB Edition has 960 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) has 384. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 6850 is 372 and the actual shader performance of the HD 8670 is 343. The HD 6850 having 29 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 6850 delivers a significantly smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 8670.
The HD 8670 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 6850. This means that the HD 8670 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 6850.
The Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) requires 75 Watts to run but there is no entry for the HD 6850. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the HD 6850 and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the HD 8670. The HD 6850 has been recommended a PSU with 100 Watts more than the HD 8670. The difference is significant enough that the HD 6850 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD 8670.

Mini Review | Radeon HD 6850 Sapphire 1GB Edition is a special edition of the Radeon HD 6850. See the page of the standard edition for more information about it. There are no new features that affect Radeon HD 6850 Sapphire 1GB Edition's gaming performance directly and so its performance is exactly like the one the standard Radeon HD 6850 delivers. | Overview Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) is an OEM Only, Fast-Middle-Class Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture. Architecture The GCN 1.1 revision of the Graphics Core Next Architecture adds new important technologies and is largely oriented for energy efficiency. New technologies such as PowerTune and TrueAudio are the biggest additions as well as DirectX 11.2 support. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed Oland XT which has 6 Compute Units activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 1000MHz and goes up to 1050MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1150MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 60W, it requires at least a 400W PSU and relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required. Performance Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) Competes with GeForce GTX 750 but the latter is much faster and slightly more efficient. It proves to be as fast as Radeon HD 7750. System Suggestions Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i3 Dual Core/AMD FX Quad Core) and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance. |
