In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 3850 AGP are significantly better than the AMD Radeon X1950 GT.

The HD 3850 was released less than a year after the Radeon X1950 GT, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The HD 3850 has 256 MB more video memory than the Radeon X1950 GT, so is likely to be slightly better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the HD 3850 also has superior memory performance overall.

The HD 3850 has 14.7 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Radeon X1950 GT, which means that the memory performance of the HD 3850 is slightly better than the Radeon X1950 GT.

The Radeon X1950 GT has 36 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP has 320. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon X1950 GT is 12 and the actual shader performance of the HD 3850 is 214. The HD 3850 having 202 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 3850 delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Radeon X1950 GT.

The Radeon X1950 GT requires 57 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP requires 75 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the HD 3850, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the Radeon X1950 GT. The HD 3850 requires 18 Watts more than the Radeon X1950 GT to run. The difference is not significant enough for the HD 3850 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Radeon X1950 GT.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewRadeon X1950 GT is a high-end GPU based on the 80nm variant of the R500 architecture.
It's based on the R570 Core and offers 36 Pixel Shaders, 12 TMUs and 12 ROPs, on a 256-bit of standard GDDR3. The central unit runs at 500MHz and the memory clock operates at up to 600MHz.
Its therefore a slightly underclocked Radeon X1900 GT which should perform slightly wosr while heating less, thanks to the smaller technology.
Most of today's games might be playable at medium settings although the low preset will have to suffice on some. As it's not based on a Shader-Unified architecture, both DirectX 10 & 11 games aren't supported.
Radeon HD 3850 AGP is a variant of the high-end Radeon HD 3850 based on the 55nm, second unified shader architecture, R600. Check its page to know more about its Core.
Compared to Radeon HD 3850, it features twice as much video memory and an AGP 8X Bus Interface. Benchmarks indicate the double sized frame buffer benefits this GPU largely and so its performance is up to 8% better than the reference Radeon HD 3850.
Today's modern games should run fluently at medium settings but with modest resolutions. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
