In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 7950 VTX3D 3GB Boost X-Edition are massively better than the AMD Radeon HD 6770 MSI MD 1GB.

The HD 7950 has a 80 MHz higher core clock speed and 72 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 6770. This results in the HD 7950 providing 66.6 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 7950 has a 80 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Render Output Units than the HD 6770. This results in the HD 7950 providing 15.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD 7950 was released over a year more recently than the HD 6770, and so the HD 7950 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 6770.

The HD 7950 has 2048 MB more video memory than the HD 6770, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the HD 7950 also has superior memory performance overall.

The HD 7950 has 169.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 6770, which means that the memory performance of the HD 7950 is massively better than the HD 6770.

The Radeon HD 7950 VTX3D 3GB Boost X-Edition has 1792 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 6770 MSI MD 1GB has 800. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 7950 is 1417 and the actual shader performance of the HD 6770 is 320. The HD 7950 having 1097 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 7950 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 6770.

The HD 7950 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 6770. This means that the HD 7950 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 6770.

We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the HD 7950.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewRadeon HD 7950 VTX3D 3GB Boost X-Edition is a special edition of the high-end Radeon HD 7950 Boost Edition.
This edition comes with a custom cooling solution and overclocking out of the box in the core-clock that was increase by 30MHz to 880MHz. Therefore, the Turbo Boost is now of 930MHz.
Expect a 1.5% performance boost when compared to the reference Radeon HD 7950 Boost Edition.
Radeon HD 6770 MSI MD 1GB is a special edition of Radeon HD 6770.
Compared to standard Radeon HD 6770 the performance is worse because both the core and memory clocks were reduced from 850MHz to 800MHz and from 1200MHz to 1100MHz, respectively.
There are no benchmarks available but we predict the performance is around 5% worse when compared to the standard AMD edition. The power consumption should also be lower.
