In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 8950 (OEM) are massively better than the AMD Radeon HD 8670 (OEM).

The HD 8670 has a 150 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 8950, but the HD 8950 has 88 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 8670. As a result, the HD 8950 exhibits a 71.2 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the HD 8670. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 8670 has a 150 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 8950, but the HD 8950 has 24 more Render Output Units than the HD 8670. As a result, the HD 8950 exhibits a 19.2 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD 8670. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

Both the Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) and the Radeon HD 8950 (OEM) were released at the same time, so are likely to be quite similar.

The HD 8950 has 1024 MB more video memory than the HD 8670, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the HD 8950 also has superior memory performance overall.

The HD 8950 has 166.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 8670, which means that the memory performance of the HD 8950 is massively better than the HD 8670.

The Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) has 384 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 8950 (OEM) has 1792. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 8670 is 343 and the actual shader performance of the HD 8950 is 1658. The HD 8950 having 1315 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 8950 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 8670.

The Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) requires 75 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 8950 (OEM) requires 200 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the HD 8670 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the HD 8950. The HD 8950 requires 125 Watts more than the HD 8670 to run. The difference is significant enough that the HD 8950 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD 8670.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) is an OEM Only, Fast-Middle-Class Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

Architecture
The GCN 1.1 revision of the Graphics Core Next Architecture adds new important technologies and is largely oriented for energy efficiency. New technologies such as PowerTune and TrueAudio are the biggest additions as well as DirectX 11.2 support.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed Oland XT which has 6 Compute Units activated and thus offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 1000MHz and goes up to 1050MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1150MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 60W, it requires at least a 400W PSU and relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) Competes with GeForce GTX 750 but the latter is much faster and slightly more efficient.
It proves to be as fast as Radeon HD 7750.

System Suggestions
Radeon HD 8670 (OEM) is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i3 Dual Core/AMD FX Quad Core) and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
Overview
Radeon HD 8950 (OEM) is an OEM Only, High-End Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

Architecture
The GCN 1.1 revision of the Graphics Core Next Architecture adds new important technologies and is largely oriented for energy efficiency. New technologies such as PowerTune and TrueAudio are the biggest additions as well as DirectX 11.2 support.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed Tahiti PRO2 which has 28 Compute Units activated and thus offers 1792 Shader Processing Units, 112 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 850MHz and goes up to 925MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 3GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 384-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 1250MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 200W, it requires at least a 500W PSU with two available 6-pin connectors.

Performance
Radeon HD 8950 (OEM) is a Direct Rebrand of Radeon HD 7950 Boost Edition and performs exactly like it.

System Suggestions
Radeon HD 8950 (OEM) is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a Strong Processor (Intel Core i5 Quad Core/AMD FX Six Core) and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
