In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) are massively better than the Intel HD i7 2600K.

The HD i7 2600K has a 50 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 8740, but the HD 8740 has 30 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD i7 2600K. As a result, the HD 8740 exhibits a 23.9 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the HD i7 2600K. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD i7 2600K has a 50 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 8740, but the HD 8740 has 14 more Render Output Units than the HD i7 2600K. As a result, the HD 8740 exhibits a 11.1 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD i7 2600K. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD 8740 was released over a year more recently than the HD i7 2600K, and so the HD 8740 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD i7 2600K.

The HD 8740 has 2048 MB video memory, but the HD i7 2600K does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) has 512 Shader Processing Units and the HD i7 2600K has 12. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 8740 is 348 and the actual shader performance of the HD i7 2600K is 65. The HD 8740 having 283 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 8740 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD i7 2600K.

The HD 8740 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD i7 2600K. This means that the HD 8740 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD i7 2600K.

The Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) requires 55 Watts to run and the HD i7 2600K requires 95 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the HD 8740 and a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the HD i7 2600K. The HD i7 2600K requires 40 Watts more than the HD 8740 to run. The difference is significant enough that the HD i7 2600K may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD 8740.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) is an OEM Only, Fast-Middle-Class Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

Architecture
The GCN Architecture succeeds the 40nm Terascale Architecture. In addition to being produced with a 28nm Technology, the GCN Architecture adds other Technologies that allow for energy efficiency. For example, ZeroCore Power, a long idle power saving technology, allows the Graphics Cards to shut down by itself when the Monitor is turned off.
GCN also adds Improved Anisotropic Filtering, DirectX 11 Tessellation and the Partially Resident Textures (PRT) Technology, which enables future games to utilize ultra-high resolution textures with the same performance as today's small and often repetitive textures.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed Cape Verde PRO which has 8 Compute Units activated and thus offers 512 Shader Processing Units, 32 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 800MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 256-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1125MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 55W, it requires at least a 400W PSU and relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) is a Direct Rebrand of Radeon HD 7750 and performs exactly like it.

System Suggestions
Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i3 Quad Core/AMD FX Quad Core) and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
Overview
Intel HD i7 2600K is the specific version of Intel HD Graphics 3000 Desktop that is Integrated in the Core i7-2600K Processor.

GPU
The Central Unit Initially Runs at 850MHz and goes up to 1350MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
Frame Buffer: Up to 1.7GB.

Memory Channel: 64-bit Or 128-bit.

Memory Clock: Up to 667MHz.

Memory Bandwidth: It is then obvious the Memory Bandwidth depends on a lot of factors and thus this Graphics Card performance may vary heavily from system to system.

Performance
Gaming Benchmarks Indicate its Performance is Similar to of a Dedicated GeForce GT 610.

System Suggestions
We recommend 4GB of RAM for a system with Intel HD i7 2600K.
