In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) are massively better than the Nvidia Quadro NVS 310 PNY Low Profile Edition.

The HD 8740 was released over a year more recently than the NVS 310, and so the HD 8740 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the NVS 310.

The HD 8740 has 1536 MB more video memory than the NVS 310, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the HD 8740 also has superior memory performance overall.

The HD 8740 has 58 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the NVS 310, which means that the memory performance of the HD 8740 is much better than the NVS 310.

The Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) has 512 Shader Processing Units and the Quadro NVS 310 PNY Low Profile Edition has 48. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 8740 is 348 and the actual shader performance of the NVS 310 is 53. The HD 8740 having 295 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 8740 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the NVS 310.

The HD 8740 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the NVS 310. This means that the HD 8740 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the NVS 310.

The Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) requires 55 Watts to run and the Quadro NVS 310 PNY Low Profile Edition requires 20 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the HD 8740. The HD 8740 requires 35 Watts more than the NVS 310 to run. The difference is significant enough that the HD 8740 may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the NVS 310.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) is an OEM Only, Fast-Middle-Class Graphics Card based on the First Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

The GCN Architecture succeeds the 40nm Terascale Architecture. In addition to being produced with a 28nm Technology, the GCN Architecture adds other Technologies that allow for energy efficiency. For example, ZeroCore Power, a long idle power saving technology, allows the Graphics Cards to shut down by itself when the Monitor is turned off.
GCN also adds Improved Anisotropic Filtering, DirectX 11 Tessellation and the Partially Resident Textures (PRT) Technology, which enables future games to utilize ultra-high resolution textures with the same performance as today's small and often repetitive textures.

It equips a GPU Codenamed Cape Verde PRO which has 8 Compute Units activated and thus offers 512 Shader Processing Units, 32 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 800MHz.

The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 256-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1125MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 55W, it requires at least a 400W PSU and relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) is a Direct Rebrand of Radeon HD 7750 and performs exactly like it.

System Suggestions
Radeon HD 8740 (OEM) is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i3 Quad Core/AMD FX Quad Core) and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
Quadro NVS 310 PNY Low Profile Edition is a special edition of the professional GPU - Quadro NVS 310, designed for enterprise purposes.
It has exactly the same specifications with no new features and so it can be addressed as a rename. Remember that this GPU features no DVI, HDMI, or VGA ports but these can be simulated via adapters.
