In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 5770 MSI Hawk Edition are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 95 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 5770, but the HD 5770 has 8 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 550 Ti. As a result, the HD 5770 exhibits a 4 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 550 Ti. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 95 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Render Output Units than the HD 5770. This results in the GTX 550 Ti providing 9.3 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 550 Ti was released over a year more recently than the HD 5770, and so the GTX 550 Ti is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 5770.

The Radeon HD 5770 MSI Hawk Edition and the GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The GTX 550 Ti has 21.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 5770, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 550 Ti is slightly better than the HD 5770.

The Radeon HD 5770 MSI Hawk Edition has 800 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition has 192. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 5770 is 350 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 550 Ti is 372. The GTX 550 Ti having 22 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 550 Ti delivers a slightly smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 5770.

We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 550 Ti, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the HD 5770.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewRadeon HD 5770 MSI Hawk Edition is a special edition of the Radeon HD 5770. See the page of the standard edition for more information about it.
Compared to the Radeon HD 5770, this Special Edition features overcloking out of the box in the core-clock which was increased by 25MHz to 875MHz and the Twin Frozr II Thermal Design which is 13℃ lower than reference cooling design, according to MSI.
The performance boost is of only 2% when compared to the standard edition.
GeForce GTX 550 Ti WindForce Edition is a special edition of the upper-middle-class GeForce GTX 550 Ti. See the standard edition's page for more information.
The new features include an increase in the clock from 900MHz to 970MHz and a new cooling system.
Benchmarks indicate a 4.5% performance boost when compared to the reference card..
Some modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution but the largest part will have to be played with a 720p resolution to be played optimally.
This Graphics Card needs to be paired with a decent Quad Core CPU.
