In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 3800 series are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 620 PNY PCIe 1GB Edition.

The HD 3800 has no core clock speed set, so any comparison between Texture and Pixel Fill Rates is not currently possible.

The GT 620 was released over three years more recently than the HD 3800, and so the GT 620 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the HD 3800 when running the latest games.

The GT 620 has 512 MB more video memory than the HD 3800, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GT 620 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GT 620 has 8.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 3800, which means that the memory performance of the GT 620 is marginally better than the HD 3800.

The GeForce GT 620 PNY PCIe 1GB Edition has 96 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 3800 series has 320. However, the actual shader performance of the GT 620 is 134 and the actual shader performance of the HD 3800 is 0. The GT 620 having 134 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GT 620 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 3800.

The GT 620 transistor size technology is 15 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 3800. This means that the GT 620 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 3800.

The GeForce GT 620 PNY PCIe 1GB Edition requires 30 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 3800 series. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GT 620.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce GT 620 PNY PCIe 1GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Entry-Level GeForce GT 620, created by PNY.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock runs at 535MHz while the Frame Buffer remains the same: 1GB. This is a gimmick and in no way benefits the GPU.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System remains the same.

Without Overclocking Out of The Box, GeForce GT 620 PNY PCIe 1GB Edition is as fast as the reference GeForce GT 620.
Radeon HD 3800 Series is not a GPU but instead a combination between Radeon HD 3830, Radeon HD 3850 and Radeon HD 3870 whose rank is a balance between the three and that exists for System Requirements purposes only.
