In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti DirectCU TOP Edition.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 175 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 6950, but the HD 6950 has 56 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 550 Ti. As a result, the HD 6950 exhibits a 39.2 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 550 Ti. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 175 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 6950, but the HD 6950 has 8 more Render Output Units than the GTX 550 Ti. As a result, the HD 6950 exhibits a 2.2 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 550 Ti. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 550 Ti was released less than a year after the HD 6950, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The HD 6950 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTX 550 Ti, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the HD 6950 also has superior memory performance overall.

The HD 6950 has 61.5 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 550 Ti, which means that the memory performance of the HD 6950 is much better than the GTX 550 Ti.

The Radeon HD 6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition has 1408 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 550 Ti DirectCU TOP Edition has 192. However, the actual shader performance of the HD 6950 is 563 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 550 Ti is 374. The HD 6950 having 189 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the HD 6950 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 550 Ti.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewRadeon HD 6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition is a special edition of Radeon HD 6950 that features a new cooling system called Propeller Blade Technology which according to MSI, generates 20% more airflow, cools down more components on the PCB and is 11℃ cooler and 13.9dB quieter than reference HD 6950.
There's no overclocking and so its performance is on level with reference card.
GeForce GTX 550 Ti DirectCU TOP Edition is a special edition of the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. See the page of the standard version for more information.
The features include better cooling and an increase on the core-clock from 900MHz to 975MHz.
Benchmarks indicate the performance is 4.5% better when compared to the reference card.
Some modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution but the largest part will have to be played with a 720p resolution to be played optimally.
This Graphics Card needs to be paired with a decent Quad Core CPU.
