In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti SC+ 3GB w/Backplate are very slightly better than the AMD Radeon HD 7870 PCS+ Vortex II Edition.

The HD 7870 has a 170 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 660 Ti, but the GTX 660 Ti has 32 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 7870. As a result, the GTX 660 Ti exhibits a 17.8 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the HD 7870. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 7870 has a 170 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Render Output Units than the GTX 660 Ti. This results in the HD 7870 providing 13.3 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

Both the GeForce GTX 660 Ti SC+ 3GB w/Backplate and the Radeon HD 7870 PCS+ Vortex II Edition were released at the same time, so are likely to be quite similar.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

Mini ReviewGeForce GTX 660 Ti SC+ 3GB w/Backplate is a special edition of GeForce GTX 660 Ti.
The new features include overclocking out of the box in which the base-clock was increased from 915MHz to 980MHz and the boost clock can now reach 1059MHz, instead of 980MHz. The memory clock was left untouched but the frame buffer was increased to 3GB which actually reduces the performance due to the 192-bit bus width not being to handle the 3GB efficiently.
The overclocking is significant but there are no benchmarks available and so this GPU's rank is predicted.
Radeon HD 7870 PCS+ Vortex II Edition is a special edition of Radeon HD 7870.
This is one of today's most powerful editions of the reference as it features increases in both the core and memory clocks that went from 1000MHz to 1150MHz and from 1200MHz to 1250MHz.
Benchmarks indicate the performance boost is quite extreme and around 8% when compared to the reference Radeon HD 7870.
