In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 710M are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce 9700M GTS.

The GeForce 710M was released over three years more recently than the GeForce 9700M GTS, and so the GeForce 710M is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce 9700M GTS when running the latest games.

The GeForce 710M has 512 MB more video memory than the GeForce 9700M GTS, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The GeForce 9700M GTS has 36.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 710M, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce 9700M GTS is noticeably better than the GeForce 710M.

The GeForce 710M has 96 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 9700M GTS has 48. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce 710M is 149 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 9700M GTS is 25. The GeForce 710M having 124 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GeForce 9700M GTS performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GeForce 710M requires 15 Watts to run and the GeForce 9700M GTS requires 60 Watts. The GeForce 9700M GTS requires 45 Watts more than the GeForce 710M to run. The difference is significant enough that the GeForce 9700M GTS may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GeForce 710M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
GeForce 710M is a entry-level Mobile Graphics Card based on the second revision of the Fermi Architecture.

Architecture
The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm Technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GF117-N14M-GL which has 2 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 96 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 8 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 775MHz. Additionally, GF117 is built using a 28nm technology.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 1GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 64-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and no way benefits the GPU. The Memory Clock Operates at 900MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Optimus, 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, Realtime Raytracing and other technologies

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 15W, it is suited for small laptops.

Performance
GeForce GT 710M is essentially a fast GeForce GT 620M.
Gaming benchmarks indicate its performance is slightly below the older GeForce GT 540M.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Core i3 Mobile) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce 710M.
Extreme gaming reaches new levels with the NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS GPUs, delivering optimized performance for immersive gaming on-the-go. With increased performance over previous enthusiast class GPUs, the GeForce 9700M GTS GPUs powers the next generation of visual computing, blazing-fast mobile gaming, and the ultimate HD experience with PureVideo HD technology. This product is also enabled for CUDA applications and is NVIDIA PhysX-ready.
