In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Intel HD i5 U430 are massively better than the Intel GM965 Express Chipset.

The HD i5 U430 was released over three years more recently than the GM965 Express Chipset, and so the HD i5 U430 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GM965 Express Chipset when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The GM965 Express Chipset and the HD i5 U430 have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The HD i5 U430 has 2.1 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GM965 Express Chipset, which means that the memory performance of the HD i5 U430 is marginally better than the GM965 Express Chipset.

Both the GM965 Express Chipset and the HD i5 U430 have 0 Shader Processing Units. The two GPUs are based on different architectures, but deliver an equivalent shader performance. To compare, we must continue to look at the memory bandwidth, Texture and Pixel Rates. In this case, we sadly do not have enough data in this area to complete the comparison.

The GM965 Express Chipset requires 14 Watts to run and the HD i5 U430 requires 18 Watts. The HD i5 U430 requires 4 Watts more than the GM965 Express Chipset to run. The difference is not significant enough for the HD i5 U430 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GM965 Express Chipset.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewIntel GM965 Express Chipset comes with most Core 2 Duo Mobile and with an integrated GMA X3100. Its performance is horrible and not recommended to any of today's games.Intel HD i5 U430 is the graphics card which is built into the Intel core i5 U430 mobile processor. this card can handle most of the latest games like, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Battlefield 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in the lowest settings on a pretty good frame rate. Overall a great card. A perfect fit for a non-hardcore gamer.
