In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Zotac AMP Edition are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce 7950 GX2.

The GTX 660 has a 546 MHz higher core clock speed and 32 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce 7950 GX2. This results in the GTX 660 providing 59.7 GTexel/s better texturing performance. Neither of these GPUs support DirectX 10 or higher, so Texture Rate holds more weight than when comparing more modern GPUs.

The GTX 660 has a 546 MHz higher core clock speed but 8 fewer Render Output Units than the GeForce 7950 GX2. The lower ROP count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the GTX 660 manages to provide 9.1 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 660 was released over three years more recently than the GeForce 7950 GX2, and so the GTX 660 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce 7950 GX2 when running the latest games.

The GTX 660 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GeForce 7950 GX2, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 660 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GTX 660 has 81.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 7950 GX2, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 660 is much better than the GeForce 7950 GX2.

The GeForce GTX 660 Zotac AMP Edition has 960 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 7950 GX2 has 48. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 660 is 1067 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 7950 GX2 is 24. The GTX 660 having 1043 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 660 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GeForce 7950 GX2.

The GTX 660 transistor size technology is 62 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce 7950 GX2. This means that the GTX 660 is expected to run massively cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce 7950 GX2.

The GeForce 7950 GX2 requires 110 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GTX 660. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GeForce 7950 GX2, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the GTX 660.
