In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti DirectCU TOP Edition are massively better than the Intel HD Graphics 4000 Desktop.

The features include better cooling and an increase on the core-clock from 900MHz to 975MHz.
Benchmarks indicate the performance is 4.5% better when compared to the reference card.
Some modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution but the largest part will have to be played with a 720p resolution to be played optimally.
This Graphics Card needs to be paired with a decent Quad Core CPU.
Overview
Intel HD Graphics 4000 Desktop are Integrated Graphics in some of Intel's Desktop Ivy Bridge Processors.

Architecture
The Ivy Bridge GT2 Core includes support for DirectX 11, OpenCL 1.2 and OpenGL 4.0. Additionally, it also offers Hardware Tessellation, Dedicated L3 Cache and better Video Decoding Performance, when compared to its Predecessor.
