In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 7850 are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti DirectCU TOP Edition.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 115 MHz higher core clock speed than the Radeon HD 7850, but the Radeon HD 7850 has 32 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 550 Ti. As a result, the Radeon HD 7850 exhibits a 23.8 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 550 Ti. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 550 Ti has a 115 MHz higher core clock speed than the Radeon HD 7850, but the Radeon HD 7850 has 8 more Render Output Units than the GTX 550 Ti. As a result, the Radeon HD 7850 exhibits a 4.1 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 550 Ti. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Radeon HD 7850 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 550 Ti, and so the Radeon HD 7850 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 550 Ti.

The Radeon HD 7850 has 1024 MB more video memory than the GTX 550 Ti, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Radeon HD 7850 also has superior memory performance overall.

The Radeon HD 7850 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 550 Ti. This means that the Radeon HD 7850 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 550 Ti.

The Radeon HD 7850 requires 130 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GTX 550 Ti. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the Radeon HD 7850, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the GTX 550 Ti.

The features include better cooling and an increase on the core-clock from 900MHz to 975MHz.
Benchmarks indicate the performance is 4.5% better when compared to the reference card.
Some modern demanding games will run at the highest settings using a 1080p resolution but the largest part will have to be played with a 720p resolution to be played optimally.
This Graphics Card needs to be paired with a decent Quad Core CPU.
Radeon HD 7850 is a high-end GPU based on 28nm GCN architecture.
It's based on the Pitcairn Core (Pro variant) and therefore offers 1024 Shader Processing Units, 64 TMUs and 32 ROPs on a 256-bit interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit is clocked at 860MHz while the memory clock operates at 1200MHZ.
It offers great performance, almost on level with previously acclaimed Radeon HD 6970. Therefore, most demanding games are playable at the highest settings with fluent frame rates, using a 1080p resolution.
Radeon HD 7850 was elected the best GPU of 2012 by the GD community, thanks to its accessible price and outstanding performance.
