In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia Quadro K5000 are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 6870 IceQ X Edition.

The HD 6870 has a 194 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro K5000, but the Quadro K5000 has 72 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 6870. As a result, the Quadro K5000 exhibits a 40 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the HD 6870. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 6870 has a 194 MHz higher core clock speed than the Quadro K5000 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the HD 6870 providing 6.2 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The Quadro K5000 was released over a year more recently than the HD 6870, and so the Quadro K5000 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the HD 6870.

The Quadro K5000 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the HD 6870. This means that the Quadro K5000 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 6870.

The Quadro K5000 requires 122 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 6870 IceQ X Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the Quadro K5000 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the HD 6870. The two GPUs have been recommended a PSU with the same amount of wattage. As such, there is no need to worry about which will more significantly affect your yearly electricity bills.

Mini ReviewQuadro K5000 is a high-end professional card based on the 28nm, Kepler architecture.

It's based on the Kepler GK104 GPU and offers 1536 Shader Processing Units, 112 TMUs and 32 ROPs, on a 256-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 706MHz and the memory clock operates at up to 11350MHz. It has a L2 Cache of 512KB and a rated board TDP of 122 Watts.

Despite exhibiting similarities to GeForce GTX 680, due to being under-clocked and because Quadro K5000's drivers are only certified for professional applications only, its gaming performance is similar to GeForce GTX 760.
Radeon HD 6870 IceQ X Edition is a special edition of the high-end Radeon HD 6870. See its page for more information about it.
Compared to the Radeon HD 6870, this Special Edition has exactly the same specifications and the only new feature is an improved cooling system which doesn't affect performance directly.
Therefore, the performance is EXACTLY like the standard Radeon HD 6870 and enough to run today's demanding games at maximum settings while Very Demanding games like Metro 2033 or Max Payne 3, will probably require reduced settings to run smoothly.
