In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 4670 Asus 512MB Edition are noticeably better than the AMD Radeon HD 3850 AGP.

The HD 4670 has a 82 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Texture Mapping Units than the HD 3850. This results in the HD 4670 providing 13.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 4670 has a 82 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 3850, but the HD 3850 has 8 more Render Output Units than the HD 4670. As a result, the HD 3850 exhibits a 4.7 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD 4670. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD 4670 was released less than a year after the HD 3850, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The Radeon HD 4670 Asus 512MB Edition and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The HD 3850 has 21 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the HD 4670, which means that the memory performance of the HD 3850 is slightly better than the HD 4670.

Both the Radeon HD 4670 Asus 512MB Edition and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP have 320 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the HD 3850 is 214 and by the HD 4670 is 214. Knowing that the shader performance of the HD 3850 is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.

The Radeon HD 4670 Asus 512MB Edition requires 59 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP requires 75 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the HD 4670 and a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the HD 3850. The HD 3850 requires 16 Watts more than the HD 4670 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the HD 3850 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the HD 4670.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 4670 Asus 512MB Edition is a special edition of AMD's Fast-Middle-Class Radeon HD 4670 512MB, created by Asus.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit runs at the same speed.

Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock runs at 1004MHz while the Frame Buffer remains the same: 512MB.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling System was replaced by Asus's Single Fan which is 15C cooler than referenced design.

Benchmarks indicate a 3% performance over the reference Radeon HD 4670 512MB.
Radeon HD 3850 AGP is a variant of the high-end Radeon HD 3850 based on the 55nm, second unified shader architecture, R600. Check its page to know more about its Core.
Compared to Radeon HD 3850, it features twice as much video memory and an AGP 8X Bus Interface. Benchmarks indicate the double sized frame buffer benefits this GPU largely and so its performance is up to 8% better than the reference Radeon HD 3850.
Today's modern games should run fluently at medium settings but with modest resolutions. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
