In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 EVGA SC Edition are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 6870 IceQ X Edition.

The HD 6870 has a 103 MHz higher core clock speed but 4 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 570. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the HD 6870 manages to provide 2.6 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The HD 6870 has a 103 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 570, but the GTX 570 has 8 more Render Output Units than the HD 6870. As a result, the GTX 570 exhibits a 3.1 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the HD 6870. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The HD 6870 was released less than a year after the GTX 570, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

However, the actual shader performance of the HD 6870 is 504 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 570 is 765. The GTX 570 having 261 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 570 delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the HD 6870.

The GeForce GTX 570 EVGA SC Edition requires 219 Watts to run but there is no entry for the HD 6870. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the HD 6870 and a PSU with at least 550 Watts for the GTX 570. The GTX 570 has been recommended a PSU with 50 Watts more than the HD 6870. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 570 may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the HD 6870.

Compared to the Radeon HD 6870, this Special Edition has exactly the same specifications and the only new feature is an improved cooling system which doesn't affect performance directly.
Therefore, the performance is EXACTLY like the standard Radeon HD 6870 and enough to run today's demanding games at maximum settings while Very Demanding games like Metro 2033 or Max Payne 3, will probably require reduced settings to run smoothly.
GeForce GTX 570 EVGA SC Edition is a special edition of the powerful GeForce GTX 570. See the standard version for more information about it.
The differences include increased memory and core clocks, from 3800MHz to 3900MHz and from 732MHz to 797MHz, respectively.
Compared to the standard version, the performance boost is significant and in about 4.5% according to most benchmarks.
All games, including demanding one's, will run on the highest settings.
