In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 6200 TurboCache are significantly better than the Nvidia Riva TNT2 Ultra.

The GeForce 6200 TurboCache was released over three years more recently than the Riva TNT2 Ultra, and so the GeForce 6200 TurboCache is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Riva TNT2 Ultra when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The GeForce 6200 TurboCache has 96 MB more video memory than the Riva TNT2 Ultra, so is likely to be slightly better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The Riva TNT2 Ultra has 0.1 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce 6200 TurboCache, which means that the memory performance of the Riva TNT2 Ultra is marginally better than the GeForce 6200 TurboCache.

The Riva TNT2 Ultra has 2 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 6200 TurboCache has 7. However, the actual shader performance of the Riva TNT2 Ultra is 0 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 6200 TurboCache is 2. The GeForce 6200 TurboCache having 2 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce 6200 TurboCache delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Riva TNT2 Ultra.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewThe RIVA TNT2 was a graphics processing unit manufactured by Nvidia starting in early 1999. The chip is codenamed "NV5" because it is the 5th graphics chip design by Nvidia, succeeding the RIVA TNT (NV4). RIVA is an acronym for Real-time Interactive Video and Animation accelerator. The "TNT" suffix refers to the chip's ability to work on two texels at once (TwiN Texel). Nvidia removed RIVA from the name later in the chip's lifetime. The NVIDIA GeForce 6500 and 6200 graphics processing units (GPUs) featuring NVIDIA TurboCache technology take full advantage of the PCI Express bus to deliver the turbocharged system performance you need to play all the hottest games and applications.
