If we are building a PC for a specific game then various game characteristics can be considered to help us put together the right computer. When considering Valheim we can see that it is in the Action, Adventure, RPG genre categories. This can influence some of the peripheral selections we make, as we will be wanting to make sure that the components we choose are complementary to the games needs. Something often overlooked is that we know the game itself would be developed during and shortly before 2021. Therefore we can speculate that it would have been built by the developers with hardware that has similar performance capability from that period as well. This title is currently not featuring on our list of most demanding games. With those thoughts helping us select specific hardware to match this title we will now select the best priced hardware today to meet these requirements from our curated gaming hardware lists.

We want a punchy GPU for this build and the GeForce GTX 1660 Super Asus Dual Evo OC 6GB is currently priced at a competitive $239.99. Checking our records our lowest tracked price for this card was on 28th Nov 2019, which had it priced at $229.99.. This PC graphics hardware selection is a nice price to performance option when looking to run Valheim at 1080p ultra graphics. We expect to see some good FPS from this card at these specs. Watching this card over the past 2 weeks we have seen its price drop by $47.68, further supporting our selection in this hardware.
We also want the graphics card to have at least 6GB VRAM onboard. The video card in this build has 6 which will act as a good data buffer between the processor and the graphics hardware.
To fit with the above graphics card we have chosen a well priced motherboard, the MSI B360M PRO-VD Intel mATX LAG1151, that will allow us to slot in a compatible Core i3-9100F 4-Core 3.6GHz processor based around the shared LGA 1151 socket. With the chosen cpu and gpu working together we will get a great Valheim experience, that helps achieve steady frames at this resolution. The chosen cpu has itself been selected because it represents a good fit with the game and the price we found it at when comparing today’s cpu market prices, finding it currently priced at $145. Looking through our data we can see the lowest price for this cpu was on 27th May 2020, which had it marked up at $59.

This is part of the gamers 3 core hardware components. Our Valheim built PC will need a correct amount of RAM while being found for the best price today. We have found the Silicon Power 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 RAM 2666MHz to be well priced at $52.99 and will complement the GeForce GTX 1660 Super Asus Dual Evo OC 6GB and Core i3-9100F 4-Core 3.6GHz selections of our build, helping us to achieve the desired FPS at 1080p ultra settings. To help provide a sense of cost for this RAM, the Silicon Power 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 RAM 2666MHz was priced at $50 on 7th Aug 2020.
This PC build has been optimized to deliver around 63 FPS at Ultra settings for Valheim, while running on a 1080p screen size. While you might want to increase this to 88 FPS if you lower some of the graphics options inline with High graphics settings.
Increasing the screen resolution for Valheim would mean this setup would be getting FPS that are 48 FPS average, at 1440p Ultra. The FPS would go up to 67 FPS if the graphics settings at this resolution were lowered to High.
While we have put a great PC build together for Valheim it’s important to understand how it handles some of the more popular games of today at 1080p. With this PC build we can expect that the popular game Little Nightmares 2 will get 118FPS on Ultra settings raising to 165FPS on High. On the other hand we see that Cyberpunk 2077 returns 48FPS on Ultra and 68FPS when lowered to High. Lastly Far Cry 6 may see 37 FPS running at Ultra, and 52 on High graphics settings.
Why not switch out the graphics card in this build and replace it with a similarly powerful card from AMD. The AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB graphics card has a 7% better performance variation compared to the currently chosen video card. As the best price point for an alternative manufacturer in this range it currently costs $899.98.
