Prices and hardware reviewed and updated: 14th Aug 2020

If you are wanting to buy a gaming computer to run NBA 2K17 then this PC build review is aimed at putting together the correct hardware components for the cheapest price today to do just that. In doing this we keep in mind our need to deliver the game reliably on ultra graphics settings, getting its visuals from a 1080p resolution monitor screen. Todays prices will be checked every few hours to make sure only the best hardware at the best prices will be displayed for this build.

We will be looking across a range of things to help evaluate this best gamer build. We will be looking across the range of best value for money components based on today’s prices. Something that can influence our peripheral selection is that the game is found in the Sim, Sport genres, and this can sometimes sway some of the requirements of hardware we choose. Something else to consider is that NBA 2K17 would have been built on PC hardware from 2016 and shortly before this period. All interesting points for sure, but what we are really after is that we want to select components that best fit this game type but will also be today’s best value for money hardware of good enough quality to meet the game’s needs.

Choosing A Graphics Card For Our 1080p NBA 2K17 PC Build

We want a punchy GPU for this build and the Radeon RX 570 PowerColor Red Dragon 4GB is currently priced at a competitive $139.99. Checking our records our lowest tracked price for this card was on 5th Aug 2020 which had it priced at $104.99.. This PC graphics hardware selection is a nice price to performance option when looking to run NBA 2K17 at 1080p ultra graphics. We expect to see some good FPS from this card at these specs. We have seen this card drop its price recently by $40 which is part of the reason it has been slotted in to this build.

Selecting The Right NBA 2K17 1080p Motherboard and CPU

To accompany the graphics option we have put a compatible motherboard into the build. The MSI B360M PRO-VD Intel mATX LAG1151 motherboard in turn enables us to add the Core i3-9100F 4-Core 3.6GHz processor that has the LGA 1151 socket. This CPU is a great fit for NBA 2K17 and balances nicely with the Radeon RX 570 PowerColor Red Dragon 4GB, to help reach the right frame rates at this resolution. We have of course chosen this CPU today because of its price to performance credentials where it is currently priced at $71.88. You can get this processor for $59, which we saw it at that price on 27th May 2020. This is the lowest we have seen it at while watching processor prices.

Having the competitive price tag of $49.46, the MSI B360M PRO-VD Intel mATX LAG1151 motherboard’s strong price point today helps it stay in this NBA 2K17 PC build. This motherboard was priced at $32.99, which we saw on 28th Dec 2019. While monitoring prices this is the lowest we have seen it at.

How To Choose The Best RAM For NBA 2K17 At The Right Price

Researching the correct system memory for our build means we need it to meet NBA 2K17 requirements, with a view to running reliable FPS at Ultra settings leads us to Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz. Today it is one of the best priced RAM options at $32.99 and will certainly support the CPU and GPU well. A price point for this RAM was down to $29.49 on 2nd Feb 2020.

PC Performance Review at 1080p Ultra Settings on NBA 2K17

Now on to the frame rates for our NBA 2K17 running on Radeon RX 570 PowerColor Red Dragon 4GB at 1080p. We should see an average of 101 FPS on High settings or you could push up the quality to Ultra, which would get us 72 FPS.

An Alternative NBA 2K17 Graphics Card Option for 1080p

Not everyone is interested in going with a AMD card, like the one we have opted for in this build. So you could try going for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 MSI Gaming X 4GB instead, which comes with a 8% worse performance adjustment when compared to Radeon RX 570 PowerColor Red Dragon 4GB, and is certainly a solid video card choice for our build. We selected it while also considering its current price point, it is costing $154.99 at the moment.
