Our objective here is to enable us to explore what PC we could buy that can play Death Stranding, where we carefully find the right hardware components that can run Death Stranding and meet its gaming needs while also heavily factoring in today’s best hardware component prices. And so our expectations are that this game will confidently run with max graphics running, running 1080p as the native screen size. These hardware items found in our build will continue to have their prices checked and components will be swapped in and out as we feel better hardware for our build is released.
Getting our best PC build together today we consider some of the characteristics of this game, which will help us better select the right hardware components for Death Stranding. First and foremost we will be looking at value for money, hunting through our curated list of gaming hardware and then cherry picking the best priced items available today. As this game falls into the Adventure genre category, this can certainly influence some of the hardware selection below, especially some of the peripherals we select out, to make sure they might the games key specialities. Something else we can consider is that Death Stranding would have been built on PC hardware from around 2020 or leading up to that period, by the developers. So it is usually fairly safe to consider hardware from that period as suitable.

Not wanting to pay over the odds for hardware we dont actually need, is a gamers primary objective when building their next PC. But obviously in this specific PC build we want to ensure enough we choose something with enough performance capability to run Death Stranding at 1080p ultra graphics options. We have taken a look at a whole bunch of graphics card prices today and compared them to the hardware’s gaming performance and our choice for this game is the Radeon RX 5700 XT MSI 8GB. We will get into its expected FPS for this game a bit later in the article, but for now we know it will deliver reliable frame rates at ultra 1080p. Checking our records our lowest tracked price for this card was on 9th Jan 2020, which had it priced at $366.42. Todays price is $383.08 which is why we have identified it as a competitive performance to price ratio compared to other hardware in the marketplace today. Looking a little deeper at this cards pricing history shows this card has increased its price by $16.66 over the past two weeks.
Finding a cpu is largely dependent on the right motherboard. The CPU we are going to choose has the Socket AM4 socket type. So we have found the best priced and well featured mobo in the GIGABYTE GA-A320M mATX AM4. The Ryzen 5 2600 processor will then fit in and accompany our Radeon RX 5700 XT MSI 8GB selection nicely, with the cpu being at a great price point, costing $119.92. Bottom prices recorded for this CPU was when we saw it at $114.99, which we noticed it on 28th Nov 2019.
Today the GIGABYTE GA-A320M mATX AM4 competitively costs $54.99, which provides it a place in our build today. This motherboard was priced at $54.99, which we saw on 29th Nov 2019. While monitoring prices this is the lowest we have seen it at.
The Death Stranding PC we are building will want some supporting RAM to help our CPU and GPU selections to deliver the right FPS. We are still focusing on achieving 1080p ultra and so the OLOy 16GB (1x16GB) DDR4 2400MHz which we have found for $49.99 is among the best price system memory at the moment. Our RAM recorded prices put this OLOy 16GB (1x16GB) DDR4 2400MHz price at $47.89 on 7th Jan 2020.
With this current build we expect to see a return of 61 frames per second at ultra 1080p resolution in Death Stranding. Adjust some of the graphics options and you could boost this up to 85 FPS for High graphics settings.
At some point you might want to increase your screen size from 1080p to 1440p. Death Stranding running with this hardware on the larger screen resolution would return 47 FPS at Ultra graphics setting or possibly up to an average of 65 FPS on High settings.
While we have put a great PC build together for Death Stranding it’s important to understand how it handles some of the more popular games of today at 1080p. With this PC build we can expect that the popular game Red Dead Redemption 2 will get 75FPS on Ultra settings raising to 104FPS on High. On the other hand we see that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare returns 86FPS on Ultra and 120FPS when lowered to High. Lastly Fortnite: Chapter 2 may see 176 FPS running at Ultra, and 200+ on High graphics settings.
We have found a great quality and still well priced gaming mouse today with the Redragon M711 Cobra. A game like Death Stranding that has Adventure genre, we felt it necessary to increase the quality of the mouse we would consider because the game has some additional needs that can benefit from this type of higher specced mouse.
As an alternative to the AMD manufactured video card we have gone for in this PC, you could also consider the similarly powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Asus Dual Advanced 8GB. It has a 3% worse performance difference compared to our selected Radeon RX 5700 XT MSI 8GB. Obviously we have chosen it as the cheapest price to performance offering in this range. It is currently priced at $379.99.
