In terms of overall gaming performance, the AMD Athlon X2 370K is marginally better than the AMD Opteron 8374 HE when it comes to running the latest games. This also means it will be less likely to bottleneck more powerful GPUs, allowing them to achieve more of their gaming performance potential.

The Athlon X2 370K was released over three years more recently than the Opteron 8374 HE, and so the Athlon X2 370K is likely to have far better levels of support, and will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Opteron 8374 HE when running the latest games.

The Athlon X2 370K has a 512 KB bigger L2 cache than the Opteron 8374 HE, and although the Athlon X2 370K does not appear to have an L3 cache, its larger L2 cache means that it wins out in this area.

The maximum Thermal Design Power is the power in Watts that the CPU will consume in the worst case scenario. The lithography is the semiconductor manufacturing technology being used to create the CPU - the smaller this is, the more transistors that can be fit into the CPU, and the closer the connections. For both the lithography and the TDP, it is the lower the better, because a lower number means a lower amount of power is necessary to run the CPU, and consequently a lower amount of heat is produced.

The Opteron 8374 HE has a 10 Watt lower Maximum TDP than the Athlon X2 370K. However, the Athlon X2 370K was created with a 13 nm smaller manufacturing technology. Overall, by taking both into account, the Athlon X2 370K is likely the CPU with the lower heat production and power requirements, by a small amount.

Mini ReviewAthlon X2 370K is a middle-class processor based on the 32nm Piledriver architecture.

It offers 2 Physical Cores (2 Logical), initially clocked at 4.0GHz, which may go up to 4.2GHz and 1MB of L2 Cache.
Among its many features, Turbo Core and Virtualization are activated and the clock multiplier is unlocked, meaning it can be overclocked easily.

The processor DOES NOT integrate any graphics. and has a rated board TDP of 65W.

It offers average performance. This means it will become a bottleneck in some demanding applications.
Opteron is AMD's x86 server and workstation processor line, and was the first processor which supported the AMD64 instruction set architecture (known generically as x86-64). It was released on April 22, 2003 with the SledgeHammer core (K8) and was intended to compete in the server and workstation markets, particularly in the same segment as the Intel Xeon processor. Processors based on the AMD K10 microarchitecture (codenamed Barcelona) were announced on September 10, 2007 featuring a new quad-core configuration. The most-recently released Opteron CPUs are the Piledriver-based Opteron 4300 and 6300 series processors, codenamed "Seoul" and "Abu Dhabi" respectively.
