"Obscurance Fields-Off"

That's ambient occlusion. Without it your screenshots look very flat and lacking depth, like 90s/00s games…

Well, your character doesn't seem to float anymore - there's a very obvious soft shadow under him, and there would also be a soft shadow on the walls or nearby objects if you stood lose. The character himself also has self-shadowing.

It doesn't seem to affect the environment itself, however, which I find weird… Now that I read more - you seem to have AO off as well, which is another separate option for the environment. It seems the SNiper Elite devs separated them.

Why do you keep both of those off? Can you genuinely not see how flat it looks? :D

well now when you say and i look for it i can see it being bland and flat but its not so noticable during the gameplay, also ambient occlusion is off bec i messed up idk why i mistook it for depth of field, the thing that blurs everything in distance

Haha, nah, AO is actually useful, unlike the exaggerated DoF garbage :D

As a photographer - I LOVE DoF that good lenses and large cameras produce. Same when rendering photorealistic CG. But game devs seem to have no clue how tf it should work…

What did you do in the last img to make the FPS drop to 66?
The others were well above 120.

Considering that your monitor can't go above 60Hz, did you notice any difference?

I've read that there are advantages of having high FPS on your monitor even if your screen can't go above 60Hz. I'll try to find the documentation and link it to you.

I know the EXACT sluggishness you describe, David.

It's not down to the lower framerate either, there's something about the frame display that starts messing up, I dunno what. In some games I can have great fps at 5K and it feels sluggish, but the same fps at 1440p feels snappy.

This sluggishness disappears with better GPUs, I can say that much. I am able to play at higher and higher resolutions every time I upgrade. It's weird and I can't explain it either.

So I've re-discovered a few videos that touch on the sluggishness topic.
For the most part it's related to frame times.
Check out the links below and see if it's useful to you.
