(thoughts/opinions) Why I strongly oppose cloud gaming
Written by: NeoPGX - 19:11 Oct-30-2019

So a lot of you already know I strongly oppose cloud gaming, to the point where I oppose the idea of it even existing as an option. But what you don't know is why. So here goes.

1. Video games have to be rendered in real time. Unlike a movie which can sit and load. This means you can't just let a video game sit and load everything at once, it has to do it on demand as the resources come.

2. You have to be connected to the internet at all times to even play the games in single player.

3. If the service goes down or your internet goes down for any length of time, you will be unable to play those games the whole time.

4. You still have to pay for the games. They will not cost any less.

5. If the cloud gaming service shuts down for good, say good bye to every game you bought on the platform. Because you will never get to play them ever again since you don't have access to the actual game files.

6. It is the ULTIMATE form of DRM. It is essentially always-online DRM in disguise.

There is but one exception, MMOs. Since MMOs are by their very nature always-online, I am fine with playing those exclusively through the cloud.

You're pretty much on point there. Not much to add.
It's the ultimate form of DRM where the seller gets to tell you when, where, how and if you'll play your (well in this case, their) games, and I don't like them having that power in their hands.
