Pedigree matters, and Shadowrun is proudly faithful to its tabletop RPG roots. Even the isometric viewpoint harkens back to the golden age of RPGs, but the combat, skill trees and plot of what is clearly a labour of love are deceptively elegant. Shadowrun has very definitely returned, and we’re sure that there will be more to come for this fantasy-cyberpunk-film noir mashup.
What the people want, the people get … at least that’s certainly true when you use crowdfunding as successfully as the Shadowrun Returns team did. Shadowrun Returns is a title that everyone knew they wanted to see and yet for some reason it took until now for the game to get made and by an indie dev group to boot. But despite these difficulties, you can see by its nomination for Best Indie Award, the title delivered on its promise to fans of the original role playing game. An evocative sci-fi fantasy setting is a difficult thing to balance well, but they have achieved it with astounding results, making it a great contender for Best Indie Award.
